عند وصول الحجاج إلى مزدلفة ، بعد النفرة من عرفات ، فهم بعد عرفات قد غفر الله لأهل الموقف كما تدل بذلك الآثار ، فهم بعد عرفة ، كما ولدتهم أمهاتهم إذاً هم في المشعر الحرام بصحائف بيضاء . فكيف يطلب الله من الحجيج ، الإستغفار عند المشعر الحرام ؟ والمدة من عرفات إلى مزدلفة قصيرة لارتكاب المعاصي .
قيل السبب : أن تستغفر الله ، لأنك قصرت في شكرك ، لعظائم منن الله عليك فذهابك إلى الحج من بلادك ، وما كابدت من مشاق ومتاعب ، لم يكن كل ذلك يوازي نعم الله عليك ، وأعظمها غفرانه عليك في ساحة عرفات .
(لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله) ، قال النووي : هي كلمة استسلام ، وتفويض ، وأن العبد لا يملك من أمره شيئاً ، وليس له حيلة في دفع الشرور ، ولا قوة في جلب المنافع إلا بإرادة الله تعالى .
