قالوا من قلة الفطنة والفهم عن الناس أن تبادر عدواً أو حسوداً أو من لك عليه حق بالمخاصمة . و إنما من الحصافة ، إذا علمت أنه لدود مُخاصم أن تظهر له السلامة . فإذا رأيت منه إعتذاراً ، فأقبله وإذا بادرك بالخصومة ، بادره بالصفح ، ثم أبطن الحذر منه ، فلا تثق به . وإذا أردت أن تؤذيه ، فأول سلاح تتخذه أن تقوم بإصلاح نفسك في قولك وفعلك ، وأعلم أن أعظم العقوبة له هي أن تعفو عنه لله تعالى . وإن بالغ في الشتم ، فبالغ أنت في الصفح . فخصومتك له تعلمه أنك تكنَّ له العداوة ، فيأخذ الحذر منك ، ويبسط لسانه عليك ، وبالصفح تجعله يجهل مما في باطنك ، فيُمكنك حينئذٍ ، أن تشتفي منه . وأقول : وينبغي أن تعلم أن تسليطه عليك إما عقوبة لذنب ، أو لرفع درجتك بالابتلاء . و اعلم أن نبيك بُعث ليتمم مكارم الأخلاق . فالقيم ليست سلاح الضعفاء كما يتبادر إلى الجهلاء بل هي سلاح الأقوياء الكمَّل .
