كتب بعض السلف إلى أخ له : أما بعد ، فإن كان الله معك فمن تخاف ؟ وإن كان عليك فمن ترجو ؟ . هذه المعية الخاصة ، هي المذكورة ، في قوله تعالى : ( لا تخافا إنني معكما أسمع وأرى ) . وفي قول : النبي ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ لأبي بكر وهما في الغار : ( ما ظنك باثنين الله ثالثهما ؟ لا تحزن إن الله معنا ) .
فهذه المعية الخاصة تقتضي النصر والتأييد ، والحفظ والإعانة ، بخلاف المعية العامة المذكورة في قوله تعالى : ( ما يكون من نجوى ثلاثة إلا هو رابعهم ولا خمسة إلا هو سادسهم … ) .
فإن هذه المعية تقتضي : علمه واطلاعه ومراقبته لأعمالهم ، فهي مقتضية لتخويف العباد منه تعالى ، والمعية الأولى تقتضي حفظ العبد ومراقبته ونصره على اعدائه فمن حفظه الله وراعى حقوقه ، وجده تجاهه فاستأنس به ، واستغنى به عن خلقه .
روي عن بنان الحمّال : أنه دخل البرية وحده ، على طريق تبوك ، فاستوحش فهتف به هاتف : لمِ تستوحش ؟ أليس حبيبك معك ؟ : رواية ابو نعيم في الحلية .
